NOTHING BY MOUTH
If you are having intravenous sedation or general anesthetic, please do not eat
or drink anything for at least 8 hours prior to your appointment for surgery. A
GOOD RULE OF THUMB IS NOT TO EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE
SURGERY. If you have a medical condition that requires scheduled meals (i.e. diabetes),
please discuss your eating habits with our office prior to your surgery. Please inform
us if you take any routine medications, and if necessary, you may take them on schedule
with a small amount of water. Please do not use any alcohol within 24 hours of your
surgery and no controlled substances within 48 hours of your surgery.
WEAR CASUAL, LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING
This will make you more comfortable and make our job easier. Please wear short
sleeves so that we may have access to your arms for our monitors and IV site.
Please remove all jewelry and especially any oral or facial piercings. No heels
please, these can be very difficult to walk in after surgery.
YOU MUST BE ACCOMPANIED AND DRIVEN HOME BY A RESPONSIBLE ADULT
You must also have a responsible adult stay with you and care for you for
24 hours after surgery. (It's very nice if it's the same person because we
will explain the post-operative instructions to them.)
DO NOT PLAN TO WORK, OR DRIVE
For at least 24 hours after surgery or while taking any prescription medication.
REMOVE CONTACT LENSES
Prior to surgery.
BRUSH AND FLOSS TEETH
Clean mouths heal better. Pay special attention to the teeth in the areas of the planned surgery.
PREMEDICATIONS
If you require any antibiotic premedications prior to any dental work or surgery, please contact our office for proper dosage and directions.
IF YOU ARE PREGANT OR BREASTFEEDING
Please contact our office prior to your appointment so that we may give you special instructions.
IF YOU ARE TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS OR OTHER FORMS OF CONTRACEPTION
Female Patients Please note that all forms of oral or administered contraception are to be considered unreliable while you are taking any form of antibiotic medication.
